Abstract

Beerbachite (pyroxene-hornblende granulite) occurs associated with serpentinized peridotite in the Girvan-Ballantrae area on the west coast of Scotland. The beerbachites are contact-altered basic lavas and intrusions which were part of a series of Ordovician volcanic rocks. The peridotite was intruded into the base of the lavas and metamerphosed them so that they now appear as inclusions in the peridotite. Chemical analyses are included.
