Abstract

In connection with a recently described occurrence of chromium in Finland, attention is directed to the possibility of an origin other than hydrothermal for chromite marbles. Two occurrences, in Baluchistan and Singhbhum, India, are mentioned. In the latter, it is considered that calcite replaced chert in a chromite-bearing chert originally formed through serpentinization of saxonite and dunite with associated chromite.
