Abstract

Exposures of the London Clay (Eocene) between Bawdsey in Suffolk and Shoeburyness in Essex, southeast England, are described briefly, and the fossils are noted. The strata are correlated with strata in Germany and Denmark and referred to the lower Eocene paleogeography of northwestern Europe. A method for rapidly detecting diatoms in the London Clay is outlined.
