Abstract

The evidence for the statement by Figari, in 1864, that marine lower Liassic beds occur in Wadi Araba, and for the subsequent confirmation by Greco in 1915, is carefully evaluated from historical data and field examination. Reasonable doubt exists that marine Liassic beds are present in the region, for, in addition to other facts, the wadis in which Figari recorded the occurrence of the Liassic are cut entirely in Carboniferous rocks and Quaternary gravels.
