The inference, from published maps, that southeasterly plunging lineation in the Moine schists (pre-Cambrian) of the Northern Highlands, Scotland, increases in intensity near the Moine thrust area, does not agree with field observations and should not be used as a premise for conclusions on the relation of thrusting and lineation. The presence of a similar lineation in unmoved Lewisian rocks of the foreland is significant. The metamorphic fabric of Moinian and Lewisian rocks still remains to be interpreted in line with actual facts.
