Researchers in the fields of geocryology and glaciology often work in isolation from each other even though the interaction between glaciers and permafrost strongly influences a range of erosional and depositional processes, as well as groundwater and surface hydrology. The publication of the volume Cryospheric Systems: Glaciers and Permafrost, which attempts to bring together work by glaciologists and geocryologists, is therefore timely.
