If you are looking for a college textbook upon which to base an introductory course in Earth Sciences, you could do worse than use this book, or the 3rd edition (September 2001) which will be available before this review is published. It covers not just basic geology but also has two chapters on the oceans, four on the atmosphere, and two more on the Solar System and beyond.
