Abstract

In connection with a paper recently published by B. S. John (for reference, see this Bibliography Vol. 32, No. 5, 06 E68-06011), a carbon-14 date was obtained and the sands in which the wood fragments lie were dated as middle Wuerm interstadial. John believed that the local climate of the period could be inferred from pollen contained in the sands. The pollen analysis, however, indicated a flora incompatible with others of mid-Wuerm age. Thus these two means of age determination yielded different ages. Two possible explanations for this anomaly are presented.
