Abstract

Following a review of various terminologies and interpretations that have been used for different types of geosynclines--particularly orthogeosyncline, eugeosyncline, and miogeosyncline--a plea is made that classification and definition be based on the structural events that produced subsidence prior to and during the geosynclinal episode rather than on the later history of the geosynclinal trough.
