Abstract

A new species of Anthraconaia resembling A. modiolaris found in the upper of two Lingula-bearing marine bands in the middle part of the sequence assigned to the Millstone Grit at Acton Cleugh (England) indicates that at least some 200 feet of the so-called Millstone Grit series belongs to the Westphalian (Carboniferous). The boundary with the Namurian probably is at the base or immediately below the lower marine band.
