In 2002, during a visit as the Association of Exploration Geochemists’ (now the Association of Applied Geochemists, AAG) distinguished lecturer in the USA, Graham Closs suggested that I should write up the talk on geochemical mapping that I had just presented at the Colorado School of Mines. At that time I had not really thought about it, because these days most geochemical mapping is in colour, and colour figures in journals are still expensive to print.
