One of my first PhD students from the University of Mainz was Wolfgang Klöck. He studied trace elements in metals from Disko Island, Greenland. This is the largest known occurrence of metallic iron on Earth. Nils Nordenskiöld, who discovered the metallic iron in Ovifak on the south coast of Disko Island in 1870, believed that the metallic masses were meteorites.
