The narrative in the last section was largely chronological. Here, and throughout the rest of this monograph, I will switch gears. Many of the topics that I have worked on over the years either grew out of my Ph.D. thesis directly or have involved subjects that were touched on but never explored in that work. The topic of this section, prebiotic O2 levels, was a major focus of my thesis, but my students and I have continued to work on various aspects of it right up to the present day.
