I summarise here my life as a scientist. Except for two six month sabbaticals at Caltech and one in Heidelberg, Germany, all 60 years have been spent here at Lamont. I say “Lamont” because when I arrived in June 1952, it was Lamont Geological Observatory. It then became Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory and it is now Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
