Frederick J. Collier, Secretary-Treasurer of the Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research, Inc. (CFFR) from 1972–1997, died on 28 June 2017 at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife Martha, 7 children and 16 grandchildren.

Fred grew up in Massachusetts and attended Tufts University on an athletic scholarship (track). After his junior year, he joined the U.S. Air Force. As a veteran, he returned to Tufts and graduated with a degree in Geology. In 1958, he began his career at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) in Washington, D. C.
