Foraminifera have been applied to environmental problems ranging from assessing cyclone, earthquake, and tsunami impacts to the effects of pollutants and quantifying sea-level change. Most of this knowledge, however, is not easily accessible to non-specialists, whether they are involved in environmental management or are interested amateurs, and thus must limit their appreciation of the potential application of foraminifera to problem solving.
