Lawrence (Larry) Brian Isham (Fig. 1), paleontological illustrator for the Department of Paleobiology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, for 30 years, died on 18 September 2011 at his home in Arlington, Virginia, at age 89. Larry belonged to the “greatest generation,” who saved the world from tyranny in WWII. Joining the Army Air Forces in May 1942, he became a bombardier on a B-17 Flying Fortress, and saw combat in the air offensive over the Ardennes in northern France. He received an honorable discharge in April 1944.
