John S. Bradshaw died on March 25, 2010 after a long battle with the oceanographer’s disease, skin cancer; he was 82. With a degree in chemistry from San Diego State University, Jack completed his doctorate at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and then assumed post-doctoral research at Scripps Institute of Oceanography (SIO) in La Jolla. He was one of the five Martin Johnson “students” at SIO who, in the late 1950s, established the field of pelagic ecological biogeography.
