Dr. John Whittaker (NHM, London) received the Cushman Award for Excellence in Foraminiferal Research at the annual Cushman Reception held at the Geological Society of America meeting in Portland, Oregon. Due to an injury, John was not able to be there in person. His wife, Christine, and two of his sons, Jonathan and Robin, received the award on his behalf.

John is an excellent scientist who is internationally respected as one of the foremost taxonomists (of foraminifera and ostracods) in the world. Since taxonomy underpins all stratigraphic, ecological and palaeoecological applications of microfossils, his work is of fundamental importance.
