Foraminiferologists comprise a hodge-podge of micropaleontologists and marine scientists, with an occasional cell biologist straggling along for the good company. Educating students, and especially other scientists, about the global importance of Foraminifera seems to be an all-consuming task for us. Barun Sen Gupta has made this endeavor a little less daunting by assembling many of the top names in the predominantly North American foraminiferal collective, and producing a book explicitly stated to serve both as an advanced text for university students and as a reference book for professionals.
