A new species of large agglutinated foraminifer of the genus Jullienella is described from dredgings of Recent sediment from 950-1,400 m depth off the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand. This appears to be the first record of this unusual genus away from the coast of Africa, in depths greater than 125 m or in water cooler than tropical or subtropical.
