Abstract
The nature and relations of outcrops of Mesozoic sediments, Tertiary basaltic lavas and intrusions, and Torridonian sandstone (Precambrian) on Scalpay and at Creag Strollamus on Skye (western Scotland) are set forth, and it is suggested that the Torridonian was upheaved along the Strollamus sink in Tertiary time. The Tertiary basalts thus occupy a volcanic inbreak, with the Torridonian sandstone thoroughly penetrated by basaltic intrusions. The nature and situation of the Broadford dolerite (or gabbro) in the same area are discussed. It is considered to be an irregular sheet penetrating the Durness limestone. The concept that it is metamorphosed Tertiary basalt lava which spread over limestone crags is considered difficult to uphold.
