This Special Issue of the Bulletin of Canadian Petroleum Geology contains thematic research articles based on presentations first made to the Third Resource Assessment Methodology Symposium, held September 15–17, 2010, in Canmore, Alberta. These ad hoc symposiums gather investigators to focus on petroleum resource assessment methods and case studies in conventional and unconventional reservoirs. The Canadian Gas Potential Committee (CGPC) initiated these symposiums beginning in Calgary, in 2000, with nine scientific articles published in a special issue of Natural Resource Research (Logan, 2005).
