The annual Gussow Geoscience Conference focuses an emerging theme related to the petroleum industry. The meeting brings together experts from many disciplines to provide a range of perspectives on the conference theme. The 2007 Gussow Conference, held at the Banff Centre from October 15 to 17, 2007, dealt with “Arctic Energy Exploration: Present and Future Development”. The opening comments of conference co-chair, Benoit Beauchamp of the Arctic Institute of North America, summed up the mood nicely:
