The constituents MgO, SiO2, K2O, CaO, Fe2O3 and Sr were determined in 73 carbonate samples using the X-ray fluorescence method. The weighted average composition of the Banff, Pekisko, Shunda, Turner Valley and Mount Head Formations are given in terms of the minerals dolomite, calcite, illite, quartz and hematite. The Sr content is lowest in the rocks that consist essentially of dolomite and a model showing possible Sr enrichment in shales adjacent to a dolomitized reef is presented.
