This is the second edition of one of the Deer Howie and Zussman (DHZ) Rock-Forming Minerals volumes which is devoted to clay minerals. The first edition was published in 1962 and included only the main clay minerals, kaolinite, illite, smectite and vermiculite as part of volume 3 devoted to sheet silicates, including micas. In the second edition the need for a separate volume devoted to clay minerals became apparent.
