The clay community has received with great interest and pleasure this Handbook of Clay Science, the first volume of a new series launched by Elsevier on ‘Developments in Clay Science’. The work carried out by the editors of the first volume, Faïza Bergaya, Benny Theng and Gerhard Lagaly, is first class, bringing together more than 60 leading scientists (a listing is impossible in this brief account) from ∼20 countries, providing this excellent volume with more than 1200 pages.
