The author of this large and handsome book has combined his training as a linguist with his interest in mineralogy to provide an exhaustive listing of synonyms for mineral species names. As such it is an appropriate companion to Volume 1 in this series, the Encyclopedia of Mineral Names.

There are claimed to be over 35000 entries in the Glossary (about ten times the number of valid species) and these include: standard synonyms, where scientific investigation has united two names; varietal names; inadequately described and unknown minerals; and names derived from various (unspecified) languages.
