This special issue of the Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences is in honor of Professor Dr. Ján Veizer, a Distinguished University Professor (emeritus) of Earth Sciences at the University of Ottawa and the former Chair of Sedimentary and Isotope Geology at Ruhr University (Bochum, Germany).

Dr. Veizer held the NSERC/Noranda/CIFAR Industrial Chair in Earth System Isotope and Environmental Geochemistry until 2004. Dr. Veizer is an award-winning isotope geochemist whose research interests have included the use of elemental and isotopic techniques in reconstructing the Earth’s climatic and environmental history.
