The International Symposium on the Ediacaran–Cambrian Transition (ISECT) took place in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, in June of 2017 (Liu et al. 2018). This event marked the 50th anniversary of the report of Ediacaran fossils at Mistaken Point by Anderson and Misra (1968), and commemorated the 2016 designation of the Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve (MPER) as a UNESCO World Heritage site (Thomas and Narbonne 2016). ISECT also served as the annual meeting for both the International Subcommission on Ediacaran Stratigraphy (ISES), and the International Subcommission on Cambrian Stratigraphy (ISCS).
