The discussion paper submitted by Rajesh and Knoper has no implications for the discoveries reported in Moser et al. (2011). The focus of our paper is the sequence of micro- to nano-scale shock features in zircon, some of which are described for the first time (e.g., shock microtwins, glasses derived from partial melts of the crater trapped within zircon, curviplanar shock fractures), and their relation to U–Pb discordance.
