Abstract

Laboratory experiments on infiltration into a fine sand under frozen and unfrozen conditions have been performed. The infiltration rate has been measured for different soil-temperature profiles. Different temperatures of the rain or meltwater have been simulated. Under frozen conditions, the infiltration rate was 1 – 2 mm/min, which is about one order of magnitude smaller than the infiltration rate under frozen conditions (10.6 mm/min). The results are discussed and compared with other data.
