Reports the first identification of bismoclite (BiOCl) in Brazil among the minerals at the Feio pegmatite mine near Pedra Lavrada, Paraiba, northeast Brazil. The specimen is soft, white, and earthy, specific gravity 7.67 + or - 0.03, optically colorless, high index of refraction, uniaxial negative, and shows one endothermic curve between 920 degrees -930 degrees C, fusing at 945 degrees C. It is thought to have formed by hydrothermal alteration of native bismuth.
