Abstract

Overgrowths on some detrital tourmaline grains contain inclusions alined parallel to the foliation of the low-grade metasedimentary host rocks, and, therefore, the overgrowths are not of authigenic origin. Features such as the absence of tourmaline in late quartz "segregation" veinlets and the spotty distribution of tourmaline elsewhere in the area are evidence that the overgrowths are not of metasomatic origin. The overgrowths appear to have grown during a late metamorphic episode.
