Abstract

Glycerol and ethylene glycol may not yield the same results when used to expand clay minerals. The results also depend on grain size, layer charge, and chemical composition. Using the preferred glycerol method, the clays of Alberni C horizon are considered to be a mixture of montmorillonite and a mixed-layer chlorite-vermiculite.
