Abstract

Core samples from over 100 points on a 11 x 14 cm section of apatite were obtained with a diamond drill. The drill bit described (a W alloy tube, 5.2 mm O. D. and 3.4 mm I. D., set with diamonds) provided cores up to 1.5 cm long. It was used in drill press with a water swivel to allow water to flow down the inside of the bit to remove the cuttings. The method provides a fast, clean way to obtain samples from selected areas for study.
