Abstract

The procedure and results of a quantitative analysis of a specimen of native palladium, reportedly from Colombia, are given. The composition is Pd 86.2, Pt 1.6, Rh 3.0, Ir 0.2, Ru 0.2, Os 0.7, Pb 8.1, insoluble 0.5 percent. The relatively large concentration of lead contrasts with native platinum and iridosmine where iron is generally the principal base metal constituent and is associated with a large solid solubility of Pb in Pd but a small solubility in Pt.
