A solution to the problem of the time of crystalliation of zircon in granitic magmas is attempted by examining the probable behavior of the Zr (super 4+) ion, according to its crystallochemical properties. It is suggested that within a single intrusion of granitic rock zircon crystallization is early (intratelluric) and is of short duration.
