Abstract

Data on solubility of quartz in water are shown to obey equations of the type: log S%v=-a/T+2, where S%v is weight percent SiO 2 in solution at constant volume, a is a constant depending on specific volume, and T is the absolute temperature. The approximate solubility of quartz in near-neutral hydrothermal solutions in depth along a steep geothermal gradient is calculated.
