Two decades after the second edition and just shy of half a century following the first edition, we have now a third edition of the immensely useful and popular Introduction to the Rock-Forming Minerals by Deer, Howie, and Zussman. Probably few practicing “hard-rock” geologists today have not been exposed to this iconic volume, be that as a text in an academic optical lab, or later on as a reference work.
