The emphasis in this volume is significantly different from Type Mineralogy of Brazil by Daniel Atencio, which was reviewed in Can. Mineral. 39, 1750 (2001). Gold and gold mines cover many pages, in contrast to clay minerals, which occupy half a page. There are over 700 excellent photographs of minerals in color; other photographs are of mines, mineralogists, and historical documents. Many of the color photographs are of mineral specimens in Brazilian collections.
