Every year, the Mineralogical Association of Canada presents its Young Scientist medal to an individual who has, in the early stages of his or her career, become recognized as a researcher. The medalist for 2007 is Dr. Laurence Coogan, of the University of Victoria. This is a belated presentation as Dr. Coogan could not attend last year’s ceremony, and I am glad that I can use the opportunity of the Goldschmidt Conference to recognize his achievements.
