Volume I of the Photoatlas of Inclusions in Gemstones was published in 1986. Volume II was published almost twenty years later, in December, 2005, but Volume III has now appeared in 2008, within a mere three years. At 672 pages, Volume III is 157 pages shorter than Volume II, but it is still a hefty work in many ways. In the physical sense, those 672 claycoated pages add up to some 2.7 kg, which, coupled with a modern, flat-backed binding, give the impression of flimsiness and insecurity.
