The early volumes of Reviews in Mineralogy, starting in the 1970s concentrated on progress in research in one particular structure-type, such as pyroxenes. In recent years, volumes covering specific techniques have been issued, and the volumes have been issued at a much more frequent pace. For example, Neutron Scattering in Earth Sciences was one of five volumes issued in 2006, and eighteen in the last five years.
