The authors, both senior scientists at the Institute of Mineralogy of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Science in Miass, have published extensively on the minerals of the Ilmeny Mountains. They previously coauthored Murzinka: Alabashka Pegmatite Field, another monograph in the Mineralogical Almanac series (reviewed in Can. Mineral.40, 1241–1242). Like Murzinka, the Ilmeny (or Il’meny) Mountains are a classic source of topaz and other gemstone minerals.
