Ron Vernon has managed to put together an excellent book illustrating microstructures seen in thin section coupled with a basic discussion on their description and interpretation. It is not a textbook on the origin of these features but rather an intermediate guide for senior students and professionals who wish to go further into the study of microstructures encountered in (mainly) igneous and metamorphic rocks.
