It is gratifying that the paper on the nomenclature of the alunite supergroup stimulated sufficient interest to prompt the discussion by Scott (2000). Although Scott (2000) focuses only on compositional aspects, the nomenclature system suggested by Jambor (1999) involves two components, namely (1) structural, and (2) compositional, and it was the structural component that triggered the re-examination of the current system of classification.
