The cover image provides an aerial view looking east at wave cut cliffs south of Flenner Creek, Humboldt County. These cliffs are situated directly above the hypocenter of the M 6.4 December 20, 2022 earthquake that occurred near the Mendocio Triple Junction (MTF). The intense shaking from this earthquake in this area reactivated the earth flow on the left of the photo, causing large blocks to slip. This resulted in the warping of the flat terrace on the upper right in the aftermath of the earthquake. The M 6.4 earthquake is analysed in detail in the paper by Hellweg et al. in this issue (“The 2021 and 2022 North Coast California Earthquake Sequences and Fault Complexity in the Vicinity of the Mendocino Triple Junction”). An annotated version of this image is provided as Figure 10 of the article.
