A landscape of Ocean Bottom Seismometers (OBSs) prior to deployment on the sea bottom. The OBSs are fixed on the deck of the R/V Kaiyu. Modern technical advances of OBS systems dramatically increased the number of recorded events. The article of Yoneshima and Mochizuki in this issue describes an effective event location method using seismic data recorded by an OBS network installed in a subduction zone. The photograph is taken during an OBS survey in 2012 to monitor aftershocks of the 2011 Tohoku-oki earthquake, deploying the same type and similar number of OBSs as used in the article.
