Abstract Six exposures of the Early Pennsylvanian Pottsville Formation in the Warrior coal field of Alabama can be seen along I-65 starting just north of Birmingham, Alabama and ending about 36 mi (60 km) farther to the north (Fig. 1). The stops illustrate the stratigraphy, structure, and depositional environments of a part of the Pottsville interval in the Warrior coal field.
